The problem

3D/4D ultrasound renders are medical-grade outputs — accurate, but visually clinical. The monochromatic surface rendering that radiologists rely on for diagnosis rarely translates into the emotionally resonant keepsake that expectant families hope to bring home. Families leave sessions with images that require explanation rather than evoking joy.

Manual retouching is not an option at scale, and off-the-shelf image editing tools have no understanding of fetal anatomy — they reshape or distort the very features parents most want to preserve. Prenatal imaging clinics need a way to generate photorealistic portraits directly from scan data, at session speed, without changing what is actually in the image.

What we built

We built a working staff gallery application powered by the SundayPyjamas AI Suite Image API. Using a single API call with a precision-engineered enhancement prompt, a staff member selects session images and clicks one button. The AI converts the ultrasound surface rendering into a photorealistic baby portrait — natural skin texture with subsurface scattering, soft lighting that follows the original contours, and fine anatomical detail — while preserving the exact pose, placement, and structure recorded in the scan.

No features are reshaped. No anatomy is invented. The result is a medically grounded, emotionally meaningful image ready to hand to a family — with no additional editing software or design skills required.

Built for multi-location scale

The system supports session-scoped galleries with independent client workflows per location. A single API key authenticates against the SundayPyjamas AI Suite, with usage metered via the platform's credits model. No per-location infrastructure, no model hosting, and no image-processing pipeline to maintain.

The system generates photorealistic, keepsake-quality portraits directly from ultrasound scan data — with zero manual retouching, zero reshaping of features, and no additional editing software. A full client session of images can be processed in under two minutes.
